HOPE's Aid In The Riverport City Of Iquitos

Belen is an urban slum community on a riverport city of Iquitos, in a crisis of severe flooding from heavy rainfall and overflowing of rivers, the worst in 30 years. More than 40,000 families are affected, with their homes flooded by contaminated waters. Families have evacuated their homes, have nowhere to prepare food, and are at imminent risk of four key preventable but fatal waterborne diseases: malaria, dengue, leptospirosis and cholera. HIDA's partner in Iquitos will facilitate an emergency distribution of food rations, medicines, containers for water purification, and mosquito nets, and coordinate community outreach for education in sanitation and disease prevention for 1500 families. In seven emergency family shelters, water containers, blankets, mosquito nets, and medicines will be distributed to 1200 families. Here are some photos of Belen:
