#BurnabyMountain Community Discussion

  • Burnaby Mountain Unceded Coast Salish Territories

1:00PM Community Assembly

A space for community members to come together and begin to discuss ideas related to what went down on Burnaby Mountain and where we can go next.

Much has happened in the last few weeks. Our peaceful community encampment was forcefully displaced by the RCMP, hundreds of us were arrested (some willingly some not), Kinder Morgan moved in.

And the community mobilized. People, food and supplies surged in. Some planned actions. Some kept a vigil. Many people played many different roles. And in the end, our stand forced Kinder Morgan to exit early as their application to extend the injunction protecting them was denied.

Last Sunday we celebrated with a rally and community dinner. But thejourney is not over. Kinder Morgan is still moving forward with their application, threatening countless communities over thousands of kilometres. And Kinder Morgan is just one among a plethora of industrial projects seeking to usurp the resources of unceded indigenous lands, endanger the environmental health of communities, and contribute catastrophic levels of carbon emissions into our atmosphere.

Now the question on everyone’s lip is what next? Where do we go from here? How do we build on and sustain this mobilization? To address this need we will offer a facilitated discussion where community members can come together and discuss what went down on Burnaby Mountain and where we can go next.

We understand that not everyone will be able to be there, but we welcome those of you who can. It won’t be the end of the conversation, but rather the beginning.

Presented by the Burnaby Mountain Caretakers

This event will be held on Unceded xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) territories.
